Gospel means Good News and is God's Word to Humanity! The good news is the revelation of Jesus Christ and the kingdom of God - Heaven. Until Jesus came to give us this good news, the world did not know that He existed, that there was a kingdom of God to inherit, or that it could only be inherited by accepting Him -Jesus, as Lord and Saviour.

The Gospel teaches us about Jesus Christ and how we can inherit the kingdom of God through Him. Jesus Himself confirms that His purpose is to tell the world of the kingdom of God... “I must preach [the good news of] the kingdom of God to the other cities also because I was sent for this purpose” [Luke 4:43]. And in Matthew 4:17, "Jesus began to preach, and to say, repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." The Gospel teaches us that we can only inherit the kingdom of God through His Son, Jesus Christ and that Christ Himself brings us the good news. So in bringing us the good news, Jesus is revealed as the gift from God given to humanity to bring us home... into the kingdom of Heaven. We cannot get there without Him!
It teaches us about Jesus Christ, the kingdom of Heaven, Salvation; what it is and how to receive it, the Holy Spirit and the journey to everlasting life. In short, the Gospel is the complete teachings of all things God and is found in the Holy Bible!
The first four books of the New Testament, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, known as the Gospels, tell us in detail about Jesus’ birth, death and resurrection. While Jesus was on earth, He did many things to show the wonders of God’s kingdom. His mission was to preach the good news to the world to save and give us hope.
Jesus preached and taught the gospel daily, in the synagogues, in the street, on His journeys in the regions, in the local inns – wherever He went. But He didn’t just preach and teach. He worked many miracles, fed those who were hungry, healed the sick and raised the dead. He did this not because He had to but because of His love for humanity.
While some accepted the Gospel, believed in Jesus and became devoted followers, others did not! Many found the teachings too hard and walked away from Jesus, rejecting the promise of eternal life. Then there were the plotters who knew Him and pretended not to. The first people to commit the 'unforgivable sin' - which was to sin against the Holy Spirit.
And as Jesus preached the Gospel daily, they - the plotters, challenged His authority and tried to stone Him when He told them the truth. The more He made them reflect on their sinful lives and showed them where they were going wrong, the more they hated Him. They sent endless groups of people to entrap Him through words and actions, but every effort failed.
The Gospel must be preached to everyone on the earth before Jesus comes again because people can only be saved by hearing the Gospel of Jesus Christ and acting on it, which is to accept Him as Lord and Saviour. Before Jesus went back to heaven, He commissioned us, everyone who becomes a Christian, to: “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation [Mark 16: 15 AMP]. The Gospel saves us and keeps us saved. We preach, but the Gospel saves!
Once saved, we all can and should preach the Gospel to those still in the world. You must know it to preach it, so studying the Bible is necessary. You don't have to be a Pastor or church leader; you don't have to be ordained with titles or positions. Remember, Jesus did not receive any positions or titles from anyone on Earth. He knew what He was sent to do by God the Father, and He did it against all the odds. So don't be discouraged; start sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with people. Give someone a call, speak to someone you work or socialise with. We have a physical and a virtual world populated with billions of people. There is an urgency for the world to know who Jesus is.
God has called all of us to spread the Gospel, so know He will help and guide you if you ask Him! Don't know how to talk to God or ask Him for help? Follow for future blogs in our Keep it Simple Series. Everyone called into the kingdom can reach people with the gospel, using the gifts that God has blessed them with.
